The dentists at Halifax Dental Group are available to our patients for dental emergencies that occur outside of office hours. We can be reached for emergencies by calling the regular clinic phone number and following the recorded instructions. One of the dentists will respond to the call and help you with your problem.

Dentures

Dentures are removable false teeth. They can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Complete dentures, which are used to replace all of the teeth in an arch, are usually made out of a very strong acrylic material. Partial dentures, which are used to replace a smaller number of teeth, can be made out of a acrylic or acrylic with a metal framework. If dentures are right for you, your dentist will review all of the available options.

Custom Sport Mouthguards

Custom mouthguards have various functions. They serve to protect teeth from unwanted fractures, have an ability to reduce concussion severely while giving additional protection to the jaws from traumatic blows. They are individually made from an accurate impression of the patient’s upper teeth. This allows a more stable and comfortable fit. This appliance is recommended for anyone involved in: contact sports, martial arts, weightlifting, and any other activity that may result in contact to the face and jaw area.

Veneers

Veneers are thin ceramic restorations that are used to esthetically (and sometimes functionally) improve teeth. Veneers are usually used with front teeth that cannot be predictably helped with other approaches. The dentists at Halifax Dental Group have all studied advanced veneer techniques and are happy to discuss options with you.

Dental Cleaning

Despite regular brushing and flossing, deposits of plaque and tartar (calculus) can accumulate on teeth and below the gum line. The presence of this buildup affects the health of teeth and gums. Left unchecked, gum disease can result. Studies have shown a link between the germs in plaque and tartar and heart disease. Our dental hygienists use custom instruments to remove any accumulation that is found on your teeth.

Fillings

A filling is a dental restoration that can be used to correct a small to medium sized defect in a tooth. Such defects may include cavities, broken or worn teeth, or broken fillings. Fillings can be made of a variety of materials. Your dentist will review with you the material options best suited for your situation.

Crowns

A crown is a dental restoration that covers an entire tooth. Crowns are often suggested for teeth that are heavily broken down or at high risk of substantial failure. Crowns can be made of a variety of materials. Some of these include porcelain, metal (gold), porcelain fused to metal and others. If a crown is recommended, your dentist will review with you the material options best suited for your situation. Treatment is usually completed in two appointments..

Tooth Removal

Our dentists are equipped to provide a variety of oral surgery services. If a problematic tooth is found to be “unfixable” its removal may be recommended. If a tooth (or teeth) require removal, your dentists will review options for tooth replacement.

Inlays, Onlays, and ¾ Crowns

Inlays, Onlays, and ¾ Crowns are dental restorations that can be used to correct medium to large sized defects in a tooth. Such restorations are typically recommended when defects are too large or involved to be successfully fixed with a filling, but not extensive enough to require crowning. Inlays, onlays, and ¾ crowns can be made of a variety of materials and treatment is completed in two visits. Your dentist will review the material options best suited for your situation.

Root canals

A root canal is a dental restoration used to fill in the hollow central chamber (or chambers) within a tooth. Root canal treatment is recommended when a tooth problem has extended to the very depth of a tooth. Problems that sometimes make root canal treatment necessary include: deep tooth decay, badly broken teeth, infected teeth, badly worn teeth. Patients who have teeth requiring root canal treatment are occasionally (but not always) in discomfort when they arrive. In the vast majority of cases, root canal treatment completely takes that pain away. Usually teeth that have had root canal treatment require crowns afterward.
